Mentoring programs

Mentoring Program

Through the Russell Walker Foundation program, mentors and mentees meet in a baseball camp at a set time and location-a format which not only allows for the volunteer mentors to properly manage their busy schedules, but also provides the much needed consistency to the mentoring relationship. One-to-one simply refers to each mentor being matched with on mentee so that they can focus their full attention on one youth and build a trusting relationship. Though mentors at our camp are matched with one youth, they are almost always in the presence of other mentors and mentees. This provides an added support mechanism along with the option of rewarding group activities and presentations.

Target for Mentoring Program

To reach all school-age youth that live in the local Chicagoland area e.g. ages 5- 17 years old.  Along with mentoring the youth, we plan to assist their families with providing a save haven for our youth during the summer break when finding care for working families can present a struggle.

Become A Mentor

What is one-to-one, site-based mentoring? Mentors and mentees meet in a supervised environment at a set time and location.
Each mentor is matched with one mentee.
Mentors commit to mentoring one academic year for 4-6 hours per month.
Sessions take place at our partner site; individual off-site activities are not permitted.

How are sessions supervised?

A site supervisor is present at all mentoring sessions.
The site supervisor represents the partner organization.
As your main level of support, the site supervisor is available as a resource and to facilitate activities at camp.
